Absolutely Not
Common Objects Lesson Plan

In the story, Frieda thinks common objects look like scary things. Have students try to create animals or people from common objects.

Collect objects that students can trace and combine into animals or people. Good objects to try would be things like a tape dispenser, scissors, pliers, a wrench, a staple puller, a spoon, toothbrush, large seashells, etc.

Hold up a few objects and ask students what they think of when they see the objects in different positions.

In the drawing below an upside down tape dispenser becomes a parrot’s head, salad tongs turn into the body and wing, paperclips become feathers, cup hooks become feet, and a penny makes the eye. Students can color their designs, then try to figure out which object were used in each other’s pictures.
